Heather Wilkie, a former finance executive at Compass Group Canada, has been named Chief Financial Officer of Appetronix, the Columbus, Ohio-based company building fully autonomous robotic restaurants that cook made-to-order meals without on-site employees. The hire signals the company is positioning for a Series A fundraising round in the coming months.
The New CFO's Background
Wilkie brings a résumé built on scaling complex foodservice operations. During seven years at Compass Group Canada, she advanced through six promotions — moving from Vice President Finance into executive leadership in Business Transformation — and oversaw more than 100 project implementations across 600-plus kitchens. She also developed innovation partnerships with more than 50 third-party organizations during that tenure, including Appetronix itself. Before Compass, Wilkie served as finance lead for Deloitte's Canadian Consulting practice and sat on its Canadian Consulting Executive Committee.
"Heather has done the thing most finance leaders never get to do, which is run the numbers and then go build the operating machinery behind them," said Nipun Sharma, Co-Founder and CEO of Appetronix. "She has scaled complex foodservice operations across hundreds of kitchens, and was among the first to identify the potential of our technology while running the innovation team at Compass."
Why It Matters for Operators
Appetronix's model sits at the intersection of restaurant automation trends and the broader labor-cost pressures reshaping quick-service and travel-dining. The company's first commercial unit — a Donatos Pizza deployment at Columbus International Airport in partnership with HMSHost, the world's largest airport concessionaire — launched in June 2025. The company now operates across multiple cuisine platforms and holds patents on food-grade robotic systems.
For restaurant and foodservice operators watching the autonomous-kitchen space, the Wilkie appointment matters for two reasons. First, her specific background managing large-scale kitchen rollouts at one of North America's biggest contract-foodservice firms gives Appetronix credibility when approaching enterprise clients and franchise groups. Second, the company's explicit mention of a Series A raise suggests accelerated unit deployment is the near-term priority — meaning potential licensing, franchise, or white-label conversations could move faster.
Wilkie framed her decision around the company's commercial traction. "The leadership team is strong, the strategy around next-generation QSR is clear, and there is real start-up energy behind it," she said. "Combining that momentum with a commercialized product already operating in the field made this an opportunity I was excited to take on."
What's Next
With a CFO now in place, Appetronix is building the financial infrastructure it says is required to scale unit deployment across North America and internationally. The Series A timeline, while not pinned to a specific date, is described by leadership as coming "in the coming months." Operators and investors tracking the autonomous foodservice and hospitality technology sector will want to watch how quickly Appetronix converts its airport proof-of-concept into a multi-venue pipeline — particularly as QSR and contract-foodservice operators continue to explore zero-labor back-of-house solutions to manage rising wage and staffing costs.
