ABC Fine Wine & Spirits has become the Official Celebration Partner of the Tampa Bay Lightning, the two Florida brands uniting around a shared retail and fan-engagement strategy that extends from Benchmark International Arena into ABC stores across the Tampa market.
The Activation Plan
The partnership is designed to surface at multiple consumer touchpoints rather than stay confined to the arena. Fans can expect in-arena signage and experiences, retail promotions at ABC locations in Tampa, and a calendar of digital and social content running throughout the NHL season. The goal, according to both parties, is to embed the retailer in the pre-game and watch-party rituals Lightning fans have built over years of supporting a three-time Stanley Cup Championship franchise.
Sean Kelly, EVP of Operations & Marketing at ABC Fine Wine & Spirits, framed the deal as a natural extension of the chain's community-first identity. "For 90 years, we've had the privilege of being part of the moments Floridians celebrate, big and small," Kelly said. "Partnering with the Tampa Bay Lightning gives us an exciting new way to continue that tradition with one of the most passionate fan bases in sports."
Sheri Anderson, Senior Vice President of Partnerships at Vinik Sports Group, echoed that community alignment. "Through this collaboration, we'll create new touchpoints for fans to celebrate victories, connect with fellow supporters, and engage with the team year-round," Anderson said.
Retail Strategy in Focus
For beverage-industry observers, the deal reflects a broader trend of spirits and wine retailers seeking affinity-driven marketing channels beyond traditional advertising. Sports partnerships give retailers a recurring, emotionally charged platform tied to live events — a format that drives both foot traffic and basket size when executed with relevant in-store promotions.
Founded in Orlando in 1936, ABC has grown to more than 126 Florida locations while remaining family-owned, a scale that gives it meaningful reach across the state's major metro markets. That footprint makes Tampa-area store activations logistically straightforward and positions the chain to capitalize on the Lightning's regional following well beyond game nights.
The arrangement also aligns with what beverage industry analysts have tracked as an acceleration of brand-building investments by independent and regional retailers competing against national chains and direct-to-consumer delivery platforms. Experiential and community-rooted partnerships have become a key differentiator for operators in the wine and spirits retail segment, as covered in restaurant and hospitality industry reporting on venue and brand collaborations.
No financial terms were disclosed. The partnership activates with the start of the Lightning's current NHL season.
